Residency and ID card
What documents do I need for Paraguay residency?
For Paraguay temporary residency, Migraciones (National Migration Office) asks for a valid passport or ID document, a birth certificate, a civil status certificate if applicable, and a criminal record check from the country where you lived for the last 3 years, all apostilled and translated into Spanish. In Paraguay, background checks from the Policía Nacional (National Police) and Interpol are added.
What you bring from your home country
- Valid passport or ID document.
- Birth certificate.
- Civil status certificate (for example, a marriage certificate), if applicable.
- Criminal record check from the country where you lived for the last 3 years.
- Consular visa, if your nationality requires one.
Apostille and translation
Documents issued outside Paraguay must be apostilled or legalized. Documents not in Spanish are translated by a sworn public translator registered in Paraguay; documents in Portuguese issued in Brazil do not need a translation.
